Electrical Design Engineer, Buildings

Paralynx Engineering is hiring an electrical engineer | designer for the AEC (Architectural, Engineering, and Construction) industry. We're located in Kelowna, British Columbia, in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. As the project coordinator, you'll drive our team in designing and powering up a wide array of projects. Paralynx Engineering is a small consulting firm that designs electrical solutions for buildings and projects throughout the communities where we work and play. The Role

As an Engineer-of-Record, you will be responsible for ensuring that designs are accurate, thorough, and meet specifications. You'll talk to stakeholders to clarify project needs; direct the more junior members of the team; and design and review work.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing electrical systems on a variety of commercial, industrial, and multi-unit residential projects;
  • Reviewing, signing, and stamping drawings and letters of assurance as the engineer of record;
  • Directing, mentoring, and training junior engineers and designers, and collaborating with your team;
  • Directly interfacing with clients and stakeholders, and providing construction support;
  • Creating life safety systems;
  • Assisting in project time budgeting;
  • Preparing technical reports and specifications;
  • Contributing to the overall business development of the company;
  • Other related tasks.

Paralynx is seeking someone who is self-motivated, highly-focused, and able to multi-task effectively, with great analytical skills. Candidates must be comfortable interacting with other disciplines and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Great communication skills are a must.

Compensation range is $70,000 to $87,000 and is based on factors including experience in the industry, skill sets, and certifications. Paralynx offers an annual health care spending account at no cost to the employee, a per-km compensation for site visits, and a flexible start time each day. There is potential to earn both individual performance and company bonuses.

Qualifications

  • (Required) Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • (Required) P.Eng. designation with EGBC, or another Canadian jurisdiction where the designation can be transferred.
  • (Required) 5+ years of direct, relevant experience designing electrical distribution systems, lighting, and life safety systems on the secondary network, with at least 1 year as the engineer of record.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to review the work of others for accuracy and completeness.
  • The ability to lead and constructively participate in meetings.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian building codes, utility companies and energy codes.
  • A specialty in Power Systems Engineering is an asset.
  • Experience working with utility companies and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong team player, with experience working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Client-focused, with the ability to communicate clearly with clients and provide appropriate support through all phases of the design and construction process.
  • Efficient and knowledgeable in the use of AutoCAD & Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Revit, AGI32 and SKM a plus.

Occasional travel will be required for meetings and site visits.
